Griffie Will Ratterree lived a long life shaped by service, family, and community. Born in Le Fore, Oklahoma, to John Henry and Ada Ratterree, Griffie grew up with deep ties to his Choctaw heritage and the values of resilience and responsibility that guided him throughout life.
After high school, Griffie answered his Country’s call and joined the United States Navy. A Korean War veteran, he served aboard the USS Thompson, where duty and camaraderie became central themes of his early adulthood. His military service reflected a lifelong dedication to honor and to those who serve, a commitment he continued in civilian life as an active member of the Lake County Honor Guard.
Griff’s life was grounded in family and in the simple pleasures of time spent with loved ones and traveling. Those who knew him remember a man who valued connection, stories, and the company of family and friends.
As a Native American and member of the Choctaw Tribe of Oklahoma, Griffie maintained a connection to his cultural roots that formed his identity and the way he related to others. His legacy is one of service- to his nation, community, family.
Griff passed away on March 13, 2026, at the age of 96. He is survived by his children Linda, Ronny, Sandi, Danny, Glenn and Griff’s partner Patricia Henry. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
