
Teela Ann Nichols, 41, was born on April 13, 1984, in Talihina, Oklahoma, the daughter of Ronald David Nichols, Sr. and Peggy Ann (Taylor) Nichols. She was preceded in death by her father; first husband, Fred Walton and aunt and uncle, Jimmy and Earlene Noah.
Teela lived in the Antlers community most of her life and graduated from Moyers High School in 2002. She married the love of her life, Fred Walton, and together they shared two wonderful daughters. Teela worked as a case manager at the Housing Authority for the Choctaw Nation for many years and was a part of the Cultural Department. She dedicated her life to serving others, both through her work and personal time. Teela was a regular volunteer at Shared Blessings in McAlester, where she loved to cook and deliver food to those in need. She found joy in the simple act of making others happy.
Teela was very passionate about sports, she played softball, basketball and stickball in school and with her Choctaw Nation teams and inspired others by coaching. She was a gifted fancy shawl dancer who proudly celebrated her Choctaw heritage. Teela also created beautiful pieces of beadwork that reflected her creativity and cultural pride. Teela leaves behind a loving family who will miss her deeply and her spirit will live on through them and the countless lives she touched.
Teela is survived by her daughters, Lailah Walton and Tiana Nichols Walton of Rattan, OK; grandchildren, Ta’Nieyah and Sione; mother, Peggy Nichols of Rattan, OK; brother, Ronald Nichols, Jr. and wife, Shay and sister, Tamara Douglas and husband, Tim; aunts, Laura of Antlers, OK and Debbie Watson and husband, Eddie of Talihina, OK; uncles, Darrell Nichols and wife, Tammy of Antlers, OK and Bobby Nichols and wife, Becky of Hartshorne, OK, along with many other family members, friends and loved ones.
