Joe Gaines is a traditional Indigenous drummer, singer, educator, actor and social justice advocate. A native of the Choctaw Nation in southeastern Oklahoma, he earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies with a concentration in Native American and Indigenous studies from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Gaines now lives in Virginia, with his wife, T. Carter, where they run their business, History Outside the Box.
