Tommy Nelson Holt was born on December 3, 1938 to Nelson Melton and Gertie B. (Guthrie) Holt in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Tommy passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025 in Norman, OK at the age of 86. Tommy lived a life rooted in dedication to family, community, and the countless young lives he influenced through his decades-long coaching career.
Tommy grew up in southern Oklahoma and graduated from Maysville High School. He continued his education at Murray State College and finished at Central State, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education, a path that would lead him to become one of the most respected coaches in the region. Known affectionately by many as “Coach Holt,” Tommy spent much of his life mentoring student-athletes across numerous towns in southern Oklahoma. His commitment to sports and education left an enduring legacy that extended far beyond the field.
Beyond his professional life, Tommy found joy in simple pleasures: checking on his cattle, catching up with friends over coffee at local shops, and spending cherished time with his beloved family. He had a special place in his heart for animals and was known for doting on his dogs and cats.
Tommy is survived by his devoted wife, Kay Holt; daughter Martha Graham; son Joe Holt and Kristin; grandchildren Hank Graham and Kalyn, Haylee Graham and Drake, Kaci Gifford and Luke, and Caden Holt; great-grandsons Hawksyn, Bodie, Payte, and Tyler; great-granddaughters Mollie and Kami; and sister-in-law Sara Cobb. Additionally, he is survived by those whom he took in and loved: Jimmy Kilby, Glennis Ring and family.
He was preceded in death by his father Nelson “Frog” Holt; mother Gertie “Muddy” Holt; daughter Camilla “Camie” Kay Holt; and sisters Ramona Cooper and Geraldine Stratton.
