
Michael Leon Smith, 69, of Midland, passed away on September 4, 2025, at his home in Midland surrounded by his family after a long battle with Glioblastoma. Michael was born in Midland to Cecil (Sonny) Smith and Melba (Pal) Smith on May 23. 1956. He lived in Midland his entire life and graduated from Midland High School in 1974. He married Jane Ann Garner on May 8,1982. He worked as a welder and in the oilfields and finally FedEx Freight until he was medically retired in 2016. He enjoyed volunteering with the Midland High School Band and driving Lois the equipment truck. He also enjoyed white water rafting, fishing and camping in Big Bend. He was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation Indian Tribe. But his greatest joy in life was being Grumpy for his 5 grandchildren. He loved to travel with them on all their many adventures.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents Sonny and Pal, his brother Cecil L. Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jane Ann, his daughter Elizabeth Ellerbe of Midland, his sons Ryan (Kyra) of Midland and Ethan (Paul) of Craig Co. His grandchildren Ayana Smith, Reyna Smith, Holt Smith, Fayth Ellerbe and Rowan Smith all of Midland. His brother David Smith (Kelly) of Belton Tx, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
