
Evelyn Mae May, 102, went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born August 4, 1922, in Darwin, Oklahoma, to Marvin and Amanda (Owen) German. Her mother, Amanda, was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation. Evelyn was raised by her mother and stepfather, John B. McKnight.
Evelyn married Alvis Dillard May February 5, 1942, in Antlers, Oklahoma. She worked for Panhandle Independent School District in Texas for many years. Evelyn was a great cook and was known for her delicious yeast rolls. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Panhandle, Texas and a member of First Baptist Church, Antlers, Oklahoma. Evelyn loved to garden and bowl in a league.
Her education included Sugar Loaf School and the historic Chilocco Indian School. She also took time to complete her GED at age fifty.
Evelyn loved her large family consisting of five children, 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Donald Ray, daughter in law, Suzanne May, granddaughter, Kelly Smalts, brothers, Gordon and Roscoe McKnight, great granddaughter, Corra Hailer, and sister, Janita Sipes.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Linda Sharp (Gene) of Oklahoma, Carolyn Anders of Oklahoma, Patricia Wyatt (Derryl) of Texas, Danny May of New Mexico, sister, Lenore Stargel of Indiana, and brother, Wallan McKnight of Oklahoma, 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and five great great-grandchildren.
