Evelyn Ann Self, age 52 of Durant, Oklahoma, passed away on April 12, 2025, at her home in Durant with her family at her side. Evelyn was born on October 15, 1972, in Talihina, Oklahoma to parents Joe Gay and Linda Ann (Pickens) Self. Evelyn graduated from Durant High School and Southeastern Oklahoma State University with her bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She proudly served her Country in the United States Army from 1996 to 2000 until her Honorable Discharge. She then worked for the Collin County, Texas juvenile detention center for ten years until her health began to decline. She was proud of her Native American heritage, and she enjoyed painting, all types of artwork, cooking, and was an activist for women, Native American heritage, and the underprivileged. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and she deeply cared and loved her family.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her grandparents Gay and Evelyn Self and Eastman and Evelyn Pickens.
Evelyn is survived by her father Joe Gay Self; mother Linda Scott and husband Nathan; sons Joseph Easley and Brenden Buntz; sisters Prissy Powell and husband Bob, Tanya Odle and husband Gary, Melinda Harrelson, and Belinda McIntire; faithful companion Dave Shackelford and numerous extended family and friends.
