Billy Joe Mayes, Jr., age 70, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on December 23,2025. He was born in Kimball, Nebraska.
Billy proudly served his community for decades as a Midwest City Fireman, later as a Deputy with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, and as an Inspector with the Oklahoma Boxing Commission. His dedication to public service reflected his strong sense of duty and commitment to protecting others.
Billy was a man of many passions. He loved his guns, hunting, and fishing, and found peace in the outdoors. Those who knew him best will remember his ornery personality, paired with a deep love for his family—expressed very much on his own terms.
He is survived by his daughters, Sarah Bennett and her husband Cory, Tayler Mayes, and Kylie Everheart and her husband Keil; his brother, Steve Mayes and his wife Michelle; and his cherished grandchildren, Brooks and Presley Bennett, Brody Williams and Tatum Cabello, Beckley and Booker Everheart.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Joe Mayes, Sr. and his mother, Caroline Green.
Billy’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the stories that will be shared for generations to come. He will be remembered for his service, his strength, and the unmistakable presence he brought into every room.
Kristi Mayes would like to express her utmost gratitude to Beverly, Natasha and the entire staff at Sommerset Assisted Living Center for the patience, compassion, and dignity you showed Billy. I know caring for him was not always easy, and your kindness never went unnoticed. Your dedication meant more to Billy and I than words can express.
