Joyce Mills, 82, of Eugene, Oregon and formally Eureka, California passed away on January 4, 2025.
Born in Oklahoma in 1942, Joyce moved with her family to Sunland, California as a young child where she was raised with her siblings Arthur, Walter and Judy.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents (Lessie, Arthur and Oscar Turner), her sister Judy and the love of her life, Gary, with whom she enjoyed 60 years of marriage.
She leaves behind her children, Wendy, Cindy (Marc), Jon (Denise) and grandchildren, Taylor (Chanse), Daniel, Lexie, Jorden (Brad), Haley (Jake) and great grandsons Colson and Luke. She had a deep profound love for all of us.
Joyce retired from Humboldt County after working more than 35 years and made lifelong friends while working at the coroner’s office. Many still remember her walking to and from our house to her office. Joyce was known for her warmth and kindness. She had a natural talent for making everyone feel welcome and was affectionately known as “Mama Mills” to countless friends who considered her a second mother. She spent her life creating a home full of love and her generosity extended far beyond her family.
Joyce cherished every opportunity to spend time with those she loved, especially on camping trips with family and friends. In addition to all the family camping trips, Joyce enjoyed Bingo, Bunko and reading. She also loved crocheting and quilting. I’m sure many of you that knew our mother well, have a baby quilt or baby blanket tucked away that was made with love. Joyce leaves behind a legacy of family, kindness, laughter and an unconditional love that will never fade.
