Eleanor Caldwell

Eleanor Caldwell, age 93, of Wright City, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully, on Monday, February 19, 2025, at Alliance Health in Durant, Oklahoma. She was born on Sunday, September 13, 1931, to Eden Allen and Nancy White Cooper in Nashoba, Oklahoma.

Eleanor was a cherished matriarch who lived a life full of love, wisdom, and deep faith. She often said, “If you eat right, you’ll live a long time,” and she was a testament to that belief. A proud first-language Choctaw speaker, she was honored with a blanket as the oldest elder in Wright City, a recognition she held with great pride. Her heritage was dear to her heart, and she found great joy in singing Choctaw hymns and sharing her culture with others. For over 93 years, she was a devoted member of the Nanih Chito United Methodist Church. She adored her grandchildren and loved nothing more than spending time with her family, whether fishing by the river or cooking up a meal filled with love. Her homemade biscuits and cakes were legendary, but it was the warmth of her spirit that will be remembered most. Eleanor’s love, strength, and faith will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leo Caldwell; one son, Ernie Caldwell; three daughters, Earlene Willis, Judy Davis and Ruth Frazier; one brother, Robert Cooper and two sisters, Edrena Impson and Francis Preston.

Eleanor is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, A.L. and Lortha Caldwell of Wright City, Oklahoma; one daughter, Pam Wilson of Durant, Oklahoma; two sisters, Louise Smith of Gainesville, Texas and Virginia of Dallas, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
