Elizabeth “Lib” Deann Carney, 50, of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, passed away on July 9, 2026, at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City after a courageous battle with cancer.
Lib was born on March 22, 1976, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to Paul L. Carney and Rosie Lee (South) Carney.
Lib was a selfless and caring woman whose greatest joy came from helping others. She loved her work at McClendon’s Garden Center in McAlester, where each February marked the beginning of another season doing what she loved most — caring for flowers, plants, and the outdoors. Whether tending a garden or creating beautiful landscapes, Lib found peace and happiness in nature.
Her greatest pride, however, was her family. To her beloved granddaughters, she was affectionately known as “Nona,” a title she treasured. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with them and created memories they will carry with them always.
In 2024, Lib was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and faced the disease with remarkable courage and determination. After successfully overcoming her initial diagnosis, cancer later returned in multiple areas, making treatment increasingly difficult. Throughout her journey, Lib remained resilient, drawing strength from the love and support of her family and friends.
She is survived by her mother, Rosie Carney; her sons: Jordaan Carney, and Adam Cooke and Arianna Boone; her daughter, Ashton Conley and husband, Garrett; her granddaughters: Serenity, Aria, and Harper Fox; bonus granddaughter, Layla; her aunts: Wanda Robertson, Evelyn Carney, Paula Carney, and Lucy Loudermilk; her uncles: Lonnie Carney and Charles South; her brothers: Eugene Hobbs and Richard Carney; and her work family: Billy Lynn and Brenda McClendon and all of her McClendon Nursery co-workers.
Lib was preceded in death by her father, Paul Carney; her aunt, Mary (South) Vermillion; and her uncles: Junior South, Larry South, Bill Carney, Sr., Bill Robertson, and Robert Carney, Sr.
Lib will be remembered for her generous heart, her love of nature, and the kindness she shared so freely with those around her. Her memory will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
